The 20th World Hiking Championships in Abtenau im Lammertal / Salzburgerland is already history.

1300 participants from 18 nations travelled and hiked 55,000 km in 3 days.

170 marathon runners took on the challenge of 42 km and 1150 m elevation gain and were rewarded with the highlight "Lammerklamm".

The schools and the "Lebenshilfe" from Abtenau also took an active part in the Hiking World Championship. Today's youth are tomorrow's wanderers; therefore a very special thank you from the school management and the teachers, as well as the Lebenshilfe for your participation.

The hikers were able to get to know a very varied hiking area of the Abtenau basin on their routes and were well supplied with Abtenau specialties at the refreshment stations and one or the other will certainly come back for a hike.

At the closing ceremony, 11 people were honored for "20 years of loyalty" with their participation in all 20 World Hiking Championships.

The group world champion and the 10 best in the group were invited to the stage and honoured for their performance.

At the end, the World Championship flag was handed over to Filzmoos, also in Salzburg, and the participants said goodbye to Abtenau on Sunday.

Saalbach Hinterglemm

🇬🇧 IVV-Europe would like to thank the Austrian Volkssportverband as well as the Tourism Association Saalbach Hinterglemm. A wonderful IVV World Walking Championships has come to an end. 900 participants completed 2973 walks, covering a total of 40,463 km. The marathon distance was successfully completed by 146 participants.
Participants from 17 nations were evaluated: Austria, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland and USA.
To say it with the tourism association: Thank you, you made it really "casual" !
See you again 2023 in Abtenau !🇩🇪
